General Information:
In today's real world MD's are no longer able to treat patients according to scientific literature, or the experiences of the physician, or the desires of the patient. MD's are required to treat patients according to what are called "standards of care". These guidelines are not really guidelines at all but are considered mandatory edicts by medical boards. Search records for yourself, do not take my word for it.
Today in the USA medicine is designed to treat a symptom not the cause of the symptom. That is why patients linger with an illness for the rest of their lives. Our medicine is standardize, if you go to most hospitals with a probable heart attack you will be given a medication to lower cholesterol even if your cholesterol is already low.
Do we really have the best medical care in the world?
I don't think so the USA is ranked 37th in the world out of 191 members in 2000 by The World Health Organization. We had gotten so bad the WHO quit compiling there list since 2000, (www.who.int). Even Costa Rica, Morocco, Monaco and Columbia are ranked above us. We spend twice the dollar amount per capita than any other country in the world, where is our superiority?
Economics vs Health:
Economics and Health are conflicting goals. Just think how often you have to see a doctor for the same issue. I have found it to be 2-6 visits for common sicknesses, how about you? And then each visit was usually first by an assistant and maybe 2 minutes with the MD, then I was charged for an extended visit. Cancer chemotherapy drugs approved by the FDA from about 1991 to 2001 had a mean time to death of 7.6 months. The time by friends and family was considered agony. With out chemotherapy the mean time to death was about 3 months less by friend and family stated the enjoyed every day. You decied and do your own research.
Remember the saying Numbers Don't Lie - People Do:
MD's and health professionals sometimes review "studies" on various drugs or procedures. The usually are only able the see the summary the drug or product company had prepared for them. The true numbers are behind the summary. Why did a study start out with "X" and only end up with "Y" people. Often you will find some eliminated for some physical problem the came up. Using the dropped people make the product not look as good as someone thought it should. How often do you hear about a popular drug being removed from distribution and another class action suit is paying out money to those who has effects on their lives.
The bottom line is that studies are now reported with relative risk instead of absolute risk. Playing with the numbers, like we talked about above.
One interesting study in 1999 in Sweden showed some very interesting information. Basically, mammography had been used quite extensively from 1985 to 1999, the end result showed that mammogram's did reduce slightly the finding of breast cancer but it increased the mortality sightly. Going back the economics did all that money for testing, and the inconvenience or anticipation waitiing for results help women to not have breast cancer - the answer is a strong NO. Please note you must look at the original whole report to get fairly good numbers, not the news summaries that spread like wildfire on the web.
Want more information on stats related to vaxcinations, look up the studies done for VAERS (vaers.hhs.gov and other places). That is a whole other area to study.
The War on Cancer = FAILURE
Did you realize that a cancer procedure is considered effect if the tumor shrinks. This procedure is not discounted if the patient died a week later from complications... The deaths from cancer for both men and women for all but a selectdecidedwaitingstudiessuperiority few cancers have stayed the same from 1950 to 2002 even with all of the "treatments". The Canadians did a study and determined that chemotherapy was not an effect drug do the other medical issues is caused.
Causes of Deaths in the USA:
The 2002 National Vital Statistics Report showed "Medical Care" only behind Heart Disease and Cancer as the leading killer of Americans. My fist thought is "And these are only what was reported!" Almost half of the Medical care deaths were from "Drug Reactions", only slightly less was being in the hospital with errors and hospital borne infections. In other words what you went in the hopsital to cure did not kill you, the drugs an the hospital did.
Is Low Cholesterol Much Better for You?
Today's guidelines suggest that anyone with a cholesterol over 180 should be on statin drugs as should anyone that has had a heart attack. The studies prove that 99.95% of the population with cholesterol of 180 or above would not benefit from the drug or diet. Now take that the drugs cost between $900 to $1,400 per year per person. Look at the monies the drug companies make from that type of drug alone. Several studies were compiled to produce the following results: for 1,999 out of 2,000 individuals each year, it make no difference whether they have elevated cholesterol or normal cholesterol, in terms of whether or not they develope coronary heart disease! Science does not rule the medical community.
